Growth Mindset

Administrative professionals find themselves in a very peculiar place in the industry today. All this talk of the 4th Industrial Revolution and jobs being on the line can be so frightening because you’re expected to prepare for something that’s yet to be fully defined.  What impact will this have on your organisation? More importantly, what impact will it have on your day-to-day tasks and your job? All of that is currently unanswered.

Regardless of any upcoming technological advancements, one thing is certain. Your continuous development is more important than ever. This goes beyond all the qualifications or skills you can acquire. It’s important to also develop the way you think into a Growth Mindset.

What is a Growth Mindset?

Developed by Dr Carol Dweck, a growth mindset refers to the underlying beliefs about a person’s learning ability and intelligence. Individuals with a growth mindset thrive on challenges. They view failure not as evidence of unintelligence, but as a springboard for learning, growth and stretching their existing abilities. Administrative professionals who share this perspective believe that their talents can continuously be developed through hard work, good strategies, and input from others. Simply put, having a growth mindset is being open to learning, evolving and adapting to change irrespective of what the world and life throw at you!

Are there Benefits?

A growth mindset can be a powerful driver to thrive in your career. Professionals with this mindset tend to relish new challenges and opportunities instead of being afraid of the unknown and potential failure. This also goes beyond your professional life. Imagine becoming the type of person who goes for what they want knowing that you’ll either succeed in what you do, or you’ll gain valuable knowledge and experience to help you succeed next time. That sounds like a life well-spent.
